Here is how it all went down. Jill woke up at 2:30 in the morning having some contractions that she could not sleep through. Being the wonderful wife that she is she decided not to wake me up until she thought she might need to go the hospital. At 4:30 in the morning I wake up and Jill is all dressed and tells me we might need to go the hospital. Little did I know at the time that she had been up for two hours, taken a bath, walked around the circle a few times, and watched T.V. Her contractions were pretty close together, about every 2-3 minutes but they were only lasting 20-30 seconds so we called the hospital and they said to wait until they were lasting longer and until the contractions were strong enough that they were hard to talk through. By 9:30 Jills contractions were strong enough that we thought we should head to the hospital. On the ride to the hospital Jill announced that her water broke or she had just wet her pants and she wasn't sure which it was. When we got to the hospital and got checked in and were seen by the first nurse it was about 11am. ( We had to make a quick stop by her parents and by Smiths for a blank tape for the camcorder.) The nurse did a strip test and told us er water had indeed broke and she was dilated to 4cm. She gave us a room and then the doctor came to give Jill her epidural. She got that at about 12:00pm and shortly after that she was dilated to 9cm and complete. She wasn't wasting any time. While she was pushing the nurse noticed that her fluid had some meconium in it (baby poop, for those without kids) and so they called my friends in the NICU. Only the respiratory therapist made it in time for my speedy wife so I got to help with the resuscitation of little boy Sam until the other nurse from the NICU came. It was fun to help out with my son. Everything went just fine and he was able to be wrapped and given to mom pretty quickly thanks to the help of my friends Joy and Jerold. He was born at 2:06 pm on 9/22/08. He weighed 7lbs 12oz and was 22 inches long. I think he is the cutest thing every but I may be a little biased.
